How to Make Shrinky Dinks While Camping
Here’s what you’ll need to make Shrinky Dinks during your camping trip:
- Shrinky Dink Sheets
- Colored Pencils
- Permanent Marker
- Small Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Keyrings, Earring Making Supplies, etc.
To get started, purchase some Shrinky Dink sheets and supplies online or at your local craft store. Download and print the templates, which are sized to match a 5.5×7.5 inch shrinky sheet. The plastic will shrink to about 20% of its original size, so print and design accordingly.
Trace the design on the rough side of the plastic with a permanent marker. I like to use a black Sharpie for outlines.
Please Note: View the design from the shiny side of the plastic; therefore, it is best to flip any writing so it is not backward. I have flipped the sayings for you in these templates.
Fill in the design with color using coloring pencils or permanent markers. I prefer using colored pencils, which brighten during shrinkage.
Cut out the colorful designs using small scissors. Add a hole with a punch where you want to add to a keyring or string.
Preheat an RV oven or a toaster oven to 325°F (160°C). Place your cut-out pieces on a parchment or foil-lined baking sheet with the rough side up. Heat for 1-2½ minutes, and watch as they magically shrink and become thicker and more durable!
Remove your Shrinky Dinks and let them cool for a few minutes before using them to create earrings, zipper pulls, and more.
Look at all the cute things my daughter and I made. Get more templates on my other site, Diana Rambles, and let the fun begin!
