Dutch Oven Spaghetti Recipe
Just like you make it at home, this recipe involves cooking and combining the pasta with a jar of pasta sauce. Mixed in ground meat, cheese, and favorite veggies for a hardy dish
Ingredients
This easy meal includes the following ingredients
- Spaghetti
- Spaghetti sauce
- Optional: ground meat or soy crumbles with Italian seasoning
- Optional: Mushroom black olive onion bell pepper shredded cheese
How to bake spaghetti over the campfire
We have found that the easiest way to make this recipe is to pre-cook the pasta at home. After draining the pasta, we toss it with olive oil and put it in a zipper plastic bag to take to the campground.
Ground meat can also be cooked at home and assembled at the campground. Add Italian seasoning to the meat crumbles.
Veggies can be canned or fresh. We picked a small can of both mushroom pieces and sliced black olives.
DO Tip
Due to their acidity, tomatoes are not recommended for cooking in cast iron. We use a Dutch oven paper liner. It keeps the tomato sauce from touching the cast iron and makes for a quick cleanup.
- Get the campfire going to the point where there are a lot of coals.
- Line the Dutch oven.
- Add all of the ingredients to the pot and stir to combine.
- Top with shredded cheese.
- Place the lid on the oven.
- Position the pot over the campfire.
- Place some coals on the lid. Do not let the pot get too hot, as this can burn the pasta.
- Bake for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Since most of the ingredients were pre-cooked, they heated everything together.
Add a loaf of Italian or French bread with the spaghetti. Toast it whole or slice it in half, and add butter and garlic.
Wrap the loaf in foil and stick it on top of the coals on the lid. Reposition every 5 minutes to ensure it does not burn in a specific spot.
