Create a giant cinnamon roll on your next camping trip.
Camping breakfast is the best! Whether over the campfire or in a Dutch oven, breakfast tastes better out at the campground.
We have a great breakfast recipe for you. It is fun to make and even better to eat.
Camping Cinnamon Rolls
This started when our kids asked us to make cinnamon rolls while camping. We bought some refrigerated cinnamon rolls and made them according to the package instructions.
We used a Durch oven instead of a conventional oven. We inserted a pie plate into the Dutch oven to cook the cinnamon rolls.
The cinnamon rolls turned out nice and crispy on the edges. They got gobbled up right away.
Our son said that he wished that the cinnamon rolls were bigger. That got us thinking.
Why not make one giant cinnamon roll using refrigerated cinnamon rolls?
A stellar idea was born!
This breakfast can be made while camping or at home.
Giant Cinnamon Roll Recipe
Prepare charcoal before you prep this recipe.
You need two cans of refrigerated cinnamon rolls and some parchment paper for this recipe.
Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit inside your Dutch oven. Using this tutorial, you can make your own Dutch Oven Liner.
Open the cans of cinnamon rolls.
Place one cinnamon roll in the very center of your parchment paper.
Unroll another cinnamon roll and wind it around the first cinnamon roll. Pinch the end of the first roll with the beginning of the second roll.
Repeat this process over and over until you get the desired size of the cinnamon roll.
Dutch Oven Cinnamon Roll
The first time we made this, we used an 8-inch Dutch oven, and we did not use all of the cinnamon rolls. There were three extra rolls left, which we baked in a pie iron over the coals of a campfire.
Another time we used to 10-inch Dutch oven in that utilized all of the cinnamon rolls from two packages.
Carefully lift up the parchment paper and place it inside your Dutch oven. Put the lid on the cast iron pot.
Place six to eight pieces of charcoal underneath the Dutch oven and 8 to 12 on top of the Dutch oven.
Bake the cinnamon roll for 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the heat of your coals.
If you make the roll at home in the oven, you will need to increase the baking time to ensure that it is thoroughly baked.
Like with our Dutch oven cooking, we use our noses to test for doneness. Once we smelled cinnamon, it was time to check the giant roll.
Remove the parchment paper with the cinnamon roll from the Dutch oven.
Drizzle the icing from the package all over the big pastry.
Doesn’t that look amazing?
Eat Cinnamon Rolls While Camping
You can cut the role into individual pieces or just pull it apart and eat as you go.

We have used a 5, 6, & 8 quart. For wider, use another can of cinnamon rolls.
