This blog has made it clear, I love the outdoors. I especially like camping, hiking, and riding my bicycle. I have always loved those activities. My wife and I have taught our children to enjoy the outdoors. We take them biking or hiking whenever we are traveling, but also enjoy nearby trails. One of our favorites local places to hike is Turkey Run State Park.
When I go on business trips or to a conference, I always search the area for hiking trails. Last year, I found this trailhead at the Almaden Quicksilver County Park when I was at a conference in San Jose. It featured an old Conservation Corp Camp and a closed mercury mine. The previous year I rented a bicycle while at a conference in San Francisco and biked across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Bicycling has always been a big part of my life. It represents the act of getting something out of what I put in. I ride nearly all forms of bicycles. I commute to work by bicycle. One of my fondest cycling memories is a fundraiser I participated in during the early ’90s. We rode around the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a blast to ride across some lava fields.
We take our bikes on trips, which are often centered around riding. Last summer we visited Decorah, Iowa so that we could ride the 12-mile Trout Run Trail. On our Circle Lake Michigan trip, we biked around Mackinac Island. It is a great location for family biking because cars are not allowed on the island.
Protein Snacks On The Go
While hiking and riding, I get hungry. I prefer a snack that is higher in protein to fuel my adventures. Protein helps me recover from my intensive activities, therefore I reach for Creminelli Fine Meats™. Creminelli makes a variety of artisan snack trays that I love. The packaging is just the right size to fit in my back biking pocket or slipped into a pack while hiking. These protein-rich snacks keep me fuller longer and I don’t get that low-energy bonk from eating carb-heavy snacks.
The Sopressata Snack Tray has slices of Soppressata salami and Monterrey Jack cheese with crackers. This 13-gram protein snack on the go is a great way to refuel out on the trail.
The Felino snack tray features the delicious pairing of Felino salami and Manchego cheese. My wife loves the tray with Casalingo, Gouda, and dried cherries.
