Pudgy Pies Recipes FAQ

What is a pudgy pie?

It is a toasted sandwich made over a campfire. Traditionally it is a dessert, but savory sandwiches are popular too.

What is the best maker to use?

I recommend this square cast-iron sandwich maker.

Can you make it without oil or butter?

Oil is unnecessary if you line pie iron with parchment on both sides. Butter on the bread gives it a toasty crispness. You can substitute it with margarine or a dairy-free spread.

Do you have to use white bread?

No, any bread, as well as leftover buns or tortillas, work.

Do I have to use canned fruit in a pudgy pie?

Fresh fruit can be used, but it will not be as sweet because there is a lot of sugar in pie fillings.

I hope you have found a new pie to make. What other fillings do you want to see inside a pudgy pie?
