Walking Taco Nachos

Walking tacos are a popular camping food, but now we present Walking Taco Nachos. This spin on the original can be made over the campfire or on a grill.

Grilled Walking Taco Nachos

Let’s face it, tacos are one of the most popular foods out there. Taco recipes are pretty limited when it comes to camping.

Many people are familiar with walking tacos in a bag. That is when you open a single-serving bag of corn chips and load it with taco meat, beans, cheese, and your other favorite toppings.

Walking Tacos always leave me wishing the cheese could be melted, and I want more than that small bag of chips.

Walking Taco Nachos Recipe

Since our most popular recipes are Grilled Nachos and S’more Nachos, I turned walking tacos into walking taco nachos. A foil pan is used to make Chili Cheese Fries and Campfire Pizza Bread.

This easy recipe goes together quickly and does not require cooking taco meat. We use canned chili.

Cheese fans will also like Bacon-Wrapped Mozzarella Sticks, Bacon-Wrapped Cheese Dogs, Pizza Sandwiches, Cheese Curd Skillet, and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

Taco Nachos Close-Up

Our preferred way to make these camping taco nachos is in a foil pan that gets covered with foil. We like to make them in individual 8 by 8 inch foil pans so that each person can add their favorite toppings. Save and get them at Dollar Tree.

This meal is fun to eat without utensils. It can get messy, but that adds to the appeal.

Personalized Walking Nachos

This walking tacos camping recipe is very versatile. Our vegetarian daughter made hers without meat, but she opted for no extra toppings.

Our son loaded his with sour cream, chopped onion, shredded lettuce, and chopped tomato. Other toppings could include jalapeños, salsa, guacamole, or queso.

As with our other nachos recipes, it’s important to make sure the temperature of the campfire or grill is not too high, or your nachos will burn on the bottom. When we cook nachos over the fire, we avoid active flames. Coals are best!

Have you ever heard of a Bain- Marie/ water bath. Like a double boiler to not scorch melted chocolate. Smaller tin pans nestled in a larger pan. Provide space between the two with water and foil balls and you can make a nice foil oven, in a pinch.

This can also change a direct heat source (Open Flame) into an indirect heat source.
