On our Southern Gulf Camping Trip, we stayed at Buccaneer SP at the personal recommendation of the Southern Glamper. She said their family loved camping there.

Camping at Buccaneer State Park Review

This ocean side state park is located about 30 minutes west of Biloxi. There are 276 campsites over eight loops. Most sites can be reserved and have full hookups, a picnic table, and a grill. The gulf view sites are electric only and do not have a table or grill. These seaside spots are in full sun and close together, but several have a great view of the water.

Things to do at Buccaneer

We visited in the winter, so we did not get to enjoy the Buccaneer Bay Water Park or splash pool that the park is known for. These both looked like a lot of fun. Other popular activities are the disc golf course and nature trail.

The campground has three large bathhouses with several toilets and shower stalls each. There is a game and meeting room, camp store, and laundry room near the splash pool.

Amazing Sunrises & Sunsets

We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets along the gulf. We walked for miles along the seawall each morning and capture some beautiful images.

Buccaneer State Park Beach

There may or may not be a small beach area adjacent to the park, depending on the shifting sand. We walked along the public beach access about a mile to the west when we first arrived.

Alternative Directions to Buccaneer State Park

Please be warned! There is a high railroad crossing along Clermont Blvd just to the northwest of the park. Your GPS is likely to send you this way off Hwy 90. If you go this way and worry about getting stuck, you can turn right onto Railroad Ave and go down to Lakeshore Rd around to Beach Blvd and approach the park from the left. Nicholas Ave off Hwy 90 to Beach Blvd is another option.

If you are coming west over Bay St. Louis, you can take an immediate left onto Bridge Blvd as you come off the Hwy 90 bridge. We exited this way as we headed east to Davis Bayou Campground and then onto Dauphin Island on our trip. Big Lagoon State Park in Florida is also to the east.

  1. The pool inside the campground should be free or pay one price for the stay. $5 per person, per day is way out of line for a state park. I have seen people try to “not pay” everytime, I have bee to the pool. $20 a day for a family of four? It should be, at the most $5 per person for the entire camping stay or week
