Enjoy the combination of strawberries, cake, and whipped cream with this Blackstone Strawberry Shortcake recipe. It is easy to make with pre-made cake.
We avoided getting a Blackstone for years since much of our camping food is made over the campfire or in a Dutch oven. In April, I was camping with a friend, and she showed me how versatile a flat-top griddle is. It convinced me to purchase one.

For a couple, a single burner Blackstone with a lid is sufficient. If you have four or more people you’re cooking for, I recommend a two-burner griddle or a larger one. See our Fire Ban Camping Gear recommendations.
Blackstone Strawberry Shortcake Recipe
Usually, strawberry shortcake consists of a biscuit-type cake base, macerated strawberries, and fresh whipped cream. Our version is more of an Americanized version using a pound cake.
Ingredients
- Fresh strawberries
- Butter
- Pure maple syrup
- Pound cake
- A spray can of whipped topping
I get pound cake from the bakery section of the grocery store. Sold sliced or as a whole loaf, which can be cut into thick slices.
How to Make Strawberry Shortcake on a Blackstone
- Grill up the strawberries.
- Grill up the cake.
- Assemble and add whipped cream.
Most strawberry shortcake recipes have you chop strawberries, sprinkle them with sugar, and let them sit in the refrigerator until juices form. This version has you cooking the strawberries on the griddle.
Rinse and chop the strawberries. If the cake comes in a loaf, cut it into inch-thick slices.
Light your Blackstone and set it to medium heat.
Add a small amount of butter to the flat top. Use the edge of your spatula to spread the butter.
Add chopped strawberries to the butter and stir until softened, which will happen quickly. Pour a small amount of pure maple syrup over the strawberries and cook for approximately a minute.
Move the strawberries to the side.
Melt some more butter on the griddle. Place the cake slices into the melted butter.
Grill a minute or two on each side until brown.
Assembling the Blackstone Dessert
Place a cake on a plate. Cover the cake with the grilled strawberries. Squeeze some whipped topping over the strawberries.
So simple and delicious! Perfect to make after Blackstone Fried Rice.
